A white, octagonal concrete tower stands 26 meters tall on the southwest coast of Great Duck Island. Construction of this structure was completed in 1918, and it was first lit the same year. The tower's lantern and gallery are painted red, contrasting with the white exterior. The light emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, visible for nearly 16 nautical miles. This lighthouse is situated on an uninhabited island in Lake Huron, approximately 25 kilometers from Manitoulin Island's coast.
Why it matters: This lighthouse provides navigational guidance across a significant area of Lake Huron, serving vessels traversing the waters southwest of Manitoulin Island.
