About Grande Digue Lighthouse
Constructed in 1912, the Grande Digue Lighthouse originally stood on the village wharf. This wooden mast, measuring 6 meters in height, was attached to a 1-story equipment shelter. It provided a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. The lighthouse ceased operations in the 1950s and was later moved for storage. In 2006, it was recognized as a historic structure and relocated to the Musée des Pionniers in Grande Digue, where it is now displayed on highway 530.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is the only known surviving example of a common type of light used in Canadian fishing villages, preserving a tangible link to maritime heritage.
