About Gereaux Island Lighthouse
A square pyramidal wood tower with a lantern and gallery, the Gereaux Island Lighthouse was built in 1880 and stands 14 meters tall. It is painted white with red trim and its focal height is 16 meters. The tower is attached to a one-story wood keeper's quarters. The lighthouse emits an occulting white light every 10 seconds, with a geographic range of 12.2 nautical miles. The station was established in 1870, and the current structure was first lit in the same year it was built. Gereaux Island is a small island located south of the entrance to Byng Inlet.
