The Fisherman's Harbour Lighthouse was a square pyramidal wooden tower built in 1905. Standing 7.5 meters tall with a focal height of 7 meters, it was painted white with a red lantern. It displayed a single green flash every 4 seconds and had a geographic range of 9.3 nautical miles. The lighthouse was situated on a sand spit off the waterfront in Fishermans Harbour, Nova Scotia. It guided mariners for over a century before its demolition in 2011, after which a skeletal mast replaced it.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's controversial demolition in 2011 led the Canadian Coast Guard to change its policy, favoring the replacement of small historic lighthouses with composite replicas.
