A square pyramidal concrete tower, built in 1924, rests on a square concrete foundation at the eastern edge of the breakwater. This structure serves as a marker for the entry to Cobourg harbour on Lake Ontario. The tower reaches a height of 12 meters, and its light source is located 15 meters above the lake's surface. It emits a red light that flashes once every two seconds, with a visibility distance of 11.9 nautical miles. The tower received a fresh coat of paint in the summer of 2013. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is not open for entry.
Why it matters: This navigation aid assists vessels entering Cobourg's harbour on Lake Ontario. Its specific flashing red signal helps boaters identify the breakwater's end, avoiding hazards near the entry point.
