About Clapperton Island Lighthouse
A square pyramidal skeletal tower, 10 meters high, stands on the north point of Clapperton Island. This structure, located off the north side of Manitoulin Island west of Little Current, replaced an earlier square wood tower in the late 1940s. The light, situated at a focal height of 15 meters, emits a white flash every four seconds. Its geographic range extends to 11.9 nautical miles. The Canadian Coast Guard manages this active navigational aid.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the northern point of Clapperton Island, assisting vessels navigating the intricate channels west of Little Current.
