The Chapel Hill light, situated on the Manayaveli heights, provided a white flash every 10 seconds from a focal height of 111 meters, with a geographic range of 26 nautical miles. The structure housing the light was a white building. A communications tower is now at the location. The light was deactivated in September 2016.
Why it matters: This light served as a navigation aid for vessels approaching Trincomalee harbor, a major port facility 2.6 km away.
