About Cape Robert Lighthouse
Also known as: lantern
Constructed in 1885, the Cape Robert lighthouse aids navigation in the complex waters of Georgian Bay near Parry Sound, Ontario. It was built to guide ships through narrow, island-filled channels and around submerged dangers. The establishment of this light responded to increased shipping traffic using Parry Sound and other Great Lakes ports. The structure has undergone updates to its lantern and power systems over the years. The Canadian Coast Guard currently maintains the operational light.
Why it matters: This light warns mariners of shoals and rocky outcrops near Cape Robert, a key navigational point for vessels entering or leaving Parry Sound.
