A 28-meter-high square skeletal tower, painted black, is situated in Akranes. Its light, with a focal plane of 40 meters, emits an occulting white, red, or green signal every three seconds. This marker guides ships toward the Akranes harbor. The structure functions as a directional navigation aid. In 2018, the rear range light was converted to this directional system; the front light was deactivated that same year. The location is accessible to visitors, but the tower structure is not.
