About Trinity House Lightship 1 Haslar Marina Lighthouse
This two-masted steel lightship, built in 1946, features a hexagonal skeletal light tower with a lantern and gallery amidships. Painted green, it stands 3 meters tall and emits a green flashing light. The vessel served various stations around the English coast, including a period at the Royal Sovereign station. After its decommissioning in 1993, it was sold and became a marina club vessel. It later served as a restaurant from 1993 until October 2021, with a new restaurant opening in June 2023. The lightship is now located at Haslar Marina in Gosport, approximately 0.1 km from the nearest port.
Why it matters: As the last lightship to serve at the Royal Sovereign station, it guided numerous vessels. Its current role as a restaurant offers visitors a direct engagement with maritime heritage.
