About Spathi Lighthouse
Also known as: Spathi (Sérifos)
Constructed in 1901, Spathi Lighthouse is a 10-meter cylindrical stone tower with a lantern and gallery, attached to a single-story keeper's house. It stands on the southern tip of Sérifos, an island in the western Cyclades, approximately 40 km north of Mílos. The focal height of the light is 67 meters above sea level, and it emits a white flash every 30 seconds. The lighthouse has been operational since its construction, providing a geographic range of 21 nautical miles. The site is open to visitors, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the southern extremity of Sérifos, guiding them through the western Cyclades shipping lanes.
