This cylindrical stone tower, standing 9.5 meters tall, marks the south side of the upper Firth of Forth. Its light is positioned 7 meters above sea level, casting a green, quick-flashing signal. The structure is a round masonry tower, now in ruins, and was formerly equipped with a lantern and gallery. Located at the eastern terminus of the Forth and Clyde Canal, it sits at the end of a breakwater on the north side of the River Carron entrance. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed. Its geographic range extends to 9.3 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This light is indispensable for small craft utilizing the Forth and Clyde Canal, providing a critical navigational marker at its eastern entrance. It warns mariners of the River Carron's mouth and the breakwater, ensuring safe passage into and out of the canal.
