Established in 1900, this metal structure served the harbor at Vadsø. Standing 5 meters tall, it featured a pyramidal tower painted white with a red roof, situated on a platform supported by piles. Its geographic range was 8.4 nautical miles, emitting a white flash. The lighthouse marked the end of the south breakwater mole at the west end of Store Vadsø. Inactive since 2021, the site remains open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: Its position at the end of the south breakwater mole warned mariners of the mole's extent and guided them into Vadsø harbor, preventing groundings in challenging Arctic conditions.
