About Tōkyō West Passage West Breakwater Lighthouse
This concrete, cylindrical tower, 16 meters in height, was built in 1981 and featured a gallery. It stood at the end of a breakwater near the west entrance to Tōkyō harbor. The lighthouse emitted two white flashes every 5 seconds. It served as a navigational aid for vessels entering and exiting the busy port. The structure was deactivated and removed in December 2017.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the end of a breakwater and was essential for safe passage into Tōkyō harbor's west entrance.
