Thamihla Kyun Lighthouse

Also known as: Thamihla Kyun (Thamhee Hla, Diamond Island)

The Thamihla Kyun lighthouse, established in 1913, is a 12-meter tall metal skeletal tower painted with red and white horizontal bands. Its light is positioned at a focal height of 24 meters and emits a white flash every four seconds, visible for 14.1 nautical miles. Located on an island off Cape Negrais, it is situated approximately 60.4 kilometers from the nearest port of Bassein. The structure itself is not open to the public, and access is solely by boat. The island is also recognized as a significant nesting site for green and loggerhead turtles.

Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for ships navigating the entrance to the Bassein River, a key waterway for regional commerce, and warns mariners of hazards around Cape Negrais and the island.
