Östergarnsholm Lighthouse, built in 1919, stands 29 meters tall on the eastern end of Östergarnsholm island, off Gotland's east coast. The cylindrical concrete tower, painted white with a single broad black horizontal band, features a lantern and gallery. Its light emits two white flashes every 15 seconds, visible for over 16 nautical miles. Originally designed to guide mariners along Gotland's eastern waters, the lighthouse station has seen changes, including the demolition of the keeper's house. Ancillary buildings remain on the site. The lighthouse continues to operate as an aid to navigation.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks Östergarnsholm island and provides guidance for vessels in the eastern Baltic Sea.
