The Southampton Lighthouse, established in 1858, guides vessels entering Shinnecock Bay and Great West Bay. It is situated on Ponquogue Point on the mainland, near the Ponquogue Bridge and approximately one mile northwest of Shinnecock Inlet. The current operational light is housed in a 23-meter square cylindrical skeletal tower with a gallery.
