About Red Bluff Lighthouse
A white fiberglass tower, standing 4 meters tall, was erected in 1987 to re-establish a navigational aid on the mainland bluff opposite East Island. The focal height of the light is 48 meters, and it emits a white flash every 15 seconds. This structure replaced an earlier light that was deactivated and removed in 1981, leaving the station inactive until its re-establishment. The geographic range of the light is 18.4 nautical miles. Road access is available to the site, which is located within the Shire of Broome.
Why it matters: The re-establishment of this light in 1987 underscores the continuing requirement for navigational guidance in the waters near East Island.
