About Rata Storgrund Lighthouse
This concrete, cylindrical tower stands 17 meters tall on a shoal in the Gulf of Bothnia, east of Ratan. Built in 1975, its upper half is painted white and the lower half red. The focal height of its light is 16 meters. This lighthouse emits two white, red, or green flashes every six seconds, with the color indicating the direction of approach. The structure includes a lantern and gallery. While the site is open, the tower is closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the Rata Storgrund shoal and provides directional guidance through the northern shipping routes of the Baltic Sea with its color-changing light.
