About Ore Lighthouse
Built in 1895, the Ore Lighthouse is a 13-meter masonry tower located at the southern tip of Sjælland, Denmark. Its rectangular structure features a lantern room and gallery on the top floor, and it is painted with red and white horizontal bands. The lighthouse guides eastbound ships into Vordingborg harbor, situated approximately 0.8 km from the nearest port. Its light emits an occulting white, red, and green signal on a 4-second cycle. The station was first established in 1879, and the tower's appearance has changed from an all-white scheme to its current banding. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is specifically established to guide vessels entering Vordingborg harbor from the east. Its directional light provides precise navigation through the waters near the southern tip of Sjælland.
