About Muddvær Lighthouse
Muddvær lighthouse is a square metal tower standing 6 meters tall, with its lantern room reaching a focal height of 9.5 meters. Located on Sørleikua, a small island west of the Muddværet group, it marks the southwestern edge of Vega. The structure features a white tower topped by a red lantern. Its light emits a white, red, or green signal, with a characteristic of one white flash followed by three seconds of darkness, repeating every 6 seconds. The geographic range of the light is 10.2 nautical miles. While the island site is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for navigating the Muddværet island group and its surrounding shoals, guiding local fishing boats and other vessels past the many small islands off Vega's coast.
