Mu Shima Lighthouse, built in 1922, is a white, cylindrical concrete tower rising 13 meters from a one-story keeper's house. It is situated on an island about 6 kilometers northwest of Hako Saki on Shikoku, marking the eastern entrance to Hiiuchi Bay. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every six seconds from a focal height of 70 meters, with a geographic range of 21.4 nautical miles. Access to the island is solely by boat, highlighting its somewhat remote location. This structure guides vessels through a significant section of the Inland Sea.
Why it matters: This lighthouse aids navigation for vessels entering Hiiuchi Bay from the east, a busier part of the Inland Sea. Its integrated tower and keeper's house design presents an interesting architectural example.
