About Malang Berendam Lighthouse
The Malang Berendam lighthouse is a white, square concrete tower standing 17 meters tall. Its structure consists of a concrete post positioned atop a square concrete skeletal tower. The light, situated 19 meters above sea level, emits a white flash every 6 seconds and has a geographic range of 12.9 nautical miles. Operational since an unrecorded date, this lighthouse is located on a reef approximately 3.9 kilometers from Pengerang. While the site is accessible to visitors by boat, the tower itself is not open to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the reef it stands upon, a significant hazard within the Johor Strait. It guides ships navigating the busy shipping routes between the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea.
