About Little River Lighthouse
The Little River Lighthouse stands on an island at the mouth of the Little River in Cutler, Maine. A light station was first established at this location in 1846, with the present iron tower constructed in 1876. The white tower measures 12 meters in height, and the light itself is situated at 17.5 meters above sea level. It emits a white flash, with a geographic range of 14 nautical miles. The station is no longer operational.
Why it matters: This structure is recognized as one of the few iron lighthouses in Maine and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1988.
Background
