About La Galleguilla Lighthouse
This cylindrical concrete tower stands 11 meters tall and is painted red with narrow white horizontal bands. It is mounted on a round concrete pier. The light emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for 10.7 nautical miles. Situated on the south end of the Galleguilla reef, it lies approximately 4 kilometers north of the Veracruz harbor entrance. The lighthouse was temporarily moved to a buoy in 2020 for restoration work on the tower. The site is open to visitors arriving by sea, but the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns vessels of the Galleguilla reef and serves as a critical navigational aid for ships approaching or departing the major Mexican port of Veracruz.
