The Kami Shima North Coast Lighthouse, constructed in 1963, is a cylindrical stone and concrete tower standing 11 meters tall. It is situated on a shoal at the eastern entrance to the passage between Shimo Shima and Kami Shima, within Hondo harbor. The lighthouse emits a green flashing light every 8 seconds from a focal height of 10 meters, visible for 10.4 nautical miles. Its structure features a round concrete tower with a double gallery, mounted on a round stone pier. The site is accessible to the public, but the tower itself is closed. Access to this navigational aid is typically by boat.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for safe navigation through Hondo harbor and the narrow channel between Shimo Shima and Kami Shima. Its light marks the eastern side of the entrance, helping vessels avoid the shoal.
