About Jazīreh-ye Khārkū Lighthouse
Also known as: Jazīreh-ye Khārkū (Kharku Island)
The Jazīreh-ye Khārkū lighthouse stands 16 meters tall on the northern tip of Khārkū Island, an uninhabited landmass northeast of Khārk Island in Iran's Bushehr Province. Its aluminum lattice tower raises the light to a focal height of 18 meters, providing a geographic range of 12.7 nautical miles. The light emits a single white flash every 10 seconds. The lighthouse is operational and managed by the Iranian authorities. Its location within the Persian Gulf serves to mark the island for maritime traffic.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels navigating the shipping lanes near Khārkū Island, helping to prevent groundings on the uninhabited island.
