About Isola di Ponza Lighthouse
Also known as: Isola di Ponza (Scoglio Ravia)
This post light displays a green signal from a 6-meter-high square stone tower, adorned with orange paint and white trim. The tower sits on a square stone foundation, connected to a 1-story structure. Its light reaches a focal height of 26 meters, with a visibility range of 14.5 nautical miles. The characteristic is a single green flash repeating every three seconds (Fl G 3s). The lighthouse is situated at the harbor entrance of Ponza, positioned on a large rock to the north. The location is open for visits, but entry into the tower is not permitted.
Why it matters: This light serves as a navigation aid, marking the northern side of the channel leading into Ponza's harbor. Its distinct green flash pattern aids mariners in identifying the entrance and navigating past submerged dangers.
