The lighthouse structure is situated on the slope of a large, active volcano on the largest of the Revillagigedo Islands, about 600 km off the Mexican coast. Its light displays a single white flash every 12 seconds. With a focal height of 135 meters, the light has a geographic range of 28.3 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower is closed.
