About Hwangdeokdo Lighthouse
Also known as: Hwangdeokdo (Hwangdok To)
A cylindrical concrete tower, 16 meters tall and painted yellow with a single black horizontal band, stands on Hwangdeokdo. The lighthouse was first lit in 1911, though the original skeletal tower was later moved to the Homigot Light museum. The current structure was built in 2006. Its focal height is 90 meters, and it emits a white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 23.8 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located on a small island off the northwestern coast of Chicheondo, near Geoje-si. The site is open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The original 1911 skeletal tower's relocation to a museum highlights its historical significance within Korea's maritime heritage.
