About Fatouville Lighthouse
Built in 1850 as designed by Léonce Reynaud, the Fatouville Lighthouse is an octagonal stone tower standing 32 meters tall. The structure includes a lantern and gallery, attached to a two-story keeper's house. It is situated on a hilltop about 7 kilometers west of Honfleur, near the D312 highway and 1500 meters south of the river. The lighthouse ceased operations in 1909 and was later sold into private ownership. Recognized as a historic monument in 2010, the site is now open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's recognition as a historic monument in 2010 highlights its enduring cultural value. Its original purpose was to guide river traffic, underscoring its historical role in regional maritime safety.
