Built in 1906, the Dàpéngshān Lighthouse is a 9-meter tall cylindrical masonry tower. It stands on the northwestern corner of Dàpéngshān, an inhabited island situated off the coast of Jīntáng Island. The tower is painted white and features a lantern and gallery. Its focal height is 87 meters, providing a geographic range of 23.4 nautical miles. The lighthouse emits a white light with one flash every 10 seconds. Its service ended when surrounding trees grew tall enough to obscure its beam, a rare instance of natural elements rendering a lighthouse inactive.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is notable for its unusual deactivation due to natural overgrowth, marking the northwestern approach to Dàpéngshān island.
