Constructed in 1975, the Contralmirante Villar Lighthouse stands near Zorritos on Peru's northern Pacific coast. The structure is an 18-meter cylindrical concrete tower with a lantern and gallery, built upon a pyramidal base. It is painted with black and white horizontal bands for daytime identification. The light displays a white flash every 10 seconds, with a geographic range of 22.3 nautical miles. The focal plane reaches 77 meters above sea level. Public access is allowed to the site, but the tower itself is not open.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the northern Peruvian coastline, offering a reference point for vessels approaching Puerto Bolivar and for fishing operations in the vicinity.
