Chóngwǔ Lighthouse, constructed from masonry, is a 9-meter-tall pentagonal tower. It was first lit in the 1930s and stands integrated with the southwest corner of an ancient city wall in Chóngwǔ, Fujian. The focal height of the light is 36 meters, and it emits a red flash every 10 seconds, visible for 16.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though access to the tower itself is restricted. Its location above the beach in Hui'an County places it near the port of Quanzhou, approximately 14.1 kilometers away.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is significant for its integration into the ancient Chóngwǔ Fortress, a rare example of modern navigational aid built upon historic defensive architecture. Its pentagonal masonry tower serves as a distinctive landmark guiding vessels along the Chóngwǔ coastline.
