This cylindrical fiberglass tower measures 4 meters in height and is distinguished by its white coloration with a singular red horizontal band. Construction and initial illumination occurred in 1962, succeeding a prior wooden marker. The light's focal plane is situated 40 meters above sea level. It produces a white flash every 12 seconds (Fl W 12s), with a geographic range extending to 17.1 nautical miles. This around 5 kilometers southwest of the main lighthouse, this structure marks the southernmost point of Cape Horn itself. It operates in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region.
Why it matters: Positioned at South America's extreme southern extent, this marker provides a primary reference for ships navigating the region's difficult waters.
