About Breidstrand Lighthouse
Also known as: Breidstrand (Rundskjæret)
This skeletal white tower with a red roof stands 8.5 meters tall on the south side of Skogsøy, an island off Langløy's northwest coast. A lantern and gallery are mounted on a tripod structure, with the light positioned 8 meters above sea level. It emits an occulting white, green, or red light every 6 seconds, visible for 9.7 nautical miles. Breidstrand marks a reef at the entrance to a harbor near Øksnes. The lighthouse site is open to visitors, but the tower is closed.
Why it matters: Breidstrand lighthouse warns mariners of a reef directly in the entrance to the local harbor, providing directional guidance to prevent groundings.
