About Beacon Rock Lighthouse
Beacon Rock is a concrete tower standing 9 meters tall, built in 2023. It features a square base topped by a barbell-shaped structure, with the upper half painted yellow and the lower half black. This structure emits a white light that flashes once every 15 seconds. The lighthouse is located in the South Sinai region of Egypt, marking the eastern edge of shoals within the Strait of Gubal at the entrance to the Gulf of Suez. It lies about 15 kilometers west of Ra's Muhammad. The site is accessible by boat, and while the grounds are open, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: This light is important for vessels navigating the Strait of Gubal, warning them of shoals extending from the eastern side at the entrance to the Gulf of Suez. Its unique barbell shape also makes it a recognizable aid to navigation in this busy shipping area.
