About Bahía las Minas Range Rear Lighthouse
This cylindrical steel tower, standing 23 meters tall, features red and white horizontal bands. Its focal plane is 7 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 7 nautical miles. Originally part of a range system, its companion front light is now deactivated. The rear light has been converted to a directional light, displaying white, red, or green depending on the approach angle. Located within a tank farm about 10 km east of Colón, it guides vessels toward a petroleum refinery.
Why it matters: This directional light provides critical guidance for tankers and other vessels approaching the refinery near Colón, helping to prevent groundings and collisions.
