About Ashdod Lighthouse
This cylindrical concrete tower, standing 42 meters tall, was built and first lit in 1966. It is located on Yonah Hill, south of Ashdod's harbor. The lighthouse features a red and white checkerboard pattern on its upper section and serves as a communications hub alongside its navigational light. Its focal height is 76 meters, and it emits a white flash every 20 seconds, visible for 22.2 nautical miles. The tower carries an array of communications gear and a lantern.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels into Ashdod, Israel's largest port. Its lantern and lens were transferred from the older Yafo (Jaffa) Light.
