About Niigata No. 2 West Breakwater Lighthouse
This white, cylindrical concrete tower stands 12 meters tall, with its light situated 15 meters above sea level. It emits a white flash every 3 seconds, visible for 11.9 nautical miles. The lighthouse is positioned at the extremity of an extended west breakwater in Niigata, Japan. Originally constructed, it was later relocated to its present position on the new breakwater extension. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This light marks the end of the west breakwater extension, a hazard for vessels entering Niigata port. It is particularly important for ferry services connecting Niigata and Sado Shima.
