About Inu Shima Shiraishi Lighthouse
Also known as: Inu Shima Shiraishi (Inujima Siroisi)
Constructed in 1964, the Inu Shima Shiraishi Lighthouse stands 10 meters high. The structure is a round, cylindrical concrete tower, 10 meters above sea level, painted black with one yellow horizontal stripe, and is set on a concrete pier. It displays a white flashing light every 10 seconds, which can be seen for 10.4 nautical miles. Located on a reef 3.4 kilometers from Ushimado, it is situated about 6 kilometers southeast of the Okayama harbor entrance, on the east side of Inu Shima island. Access to the grounds is permitted, though the tower is not open for entry.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a navigation aid, marking a reef near the eastern shore of Inu Shima and assisting vessels navigating toward the Okayama port.
