Chequamegon Point Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Chequamegon Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1896, this lighthouse stands 11 meters tall with a focal height of 10 meters. Its green tower supports an octagonal lantern with a red roof. The light emits a green color. The geographic range of the light is 7 nautical miles. Originally, a keeper from the nearby La Pointe Light maintained this station, utilizing its lens. A boardwalk facilitated travel between the two lights, allowing keepers to cycle between them. The structure was later moved inland from its original position on the shoreline.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marked the entrance to Chequamegon Bay, serving the towns of Washburn and Ashland.
