Cedar Point Lighthouse Lighthouse

About Cedar Point Lighthouse Lighthouse
A new lighthouse structure was finished in 1862 to replace an earlier light from 1838. This replacement served as a navigational aid until 1909, when the tower was detached from the dwelling. For years afterward, the site functioned as a buoy depot, radio beacon station, and search and rescue boat station. These latter duties concluded in 1975, and the station was discontinued. The lighthouse was acquired by Cedar Point Amusement Park in 1987 and underwent a decade of restoration and tower reconstruction, reopening as part of a development in 2001.
Why it matters: The Cedar Point Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
