Bluff Point Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Bluff Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1874 on Valcour Island in Lake Champlain, Bluff Point Light served mariners for nearly six decades. The lighthouse stands 29 meters above the shore and was illuminated by a fifth order Fresnel lens. Its base was built from blue limestone. The structure, also referred to as Valcour Island Light, was one of the final lighthouses on Lake Champlain to receive a name. Operations ceased in 1930, and the site is now part of Adirondack State Park.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guided ships through the channel between Valcour Island and New York State for almost sixty years and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
