Battle Island Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Battle Island Lighthouse
This concrete lighthouse, built in 1911 on the western point of Battle Island, stands 36 meters tall. Its octagonal tower is painted white and emits a white light. Originally, the light offered a sequence of three bright flashes, separated by four-second intervals, followed by a 16-second interval. Additionally, a concurrent weaker light had a 12-second duration followed by 12 seconds of darkness. The fog horn sounded for 3.5 seconds with 26.5 seconds of silence. The structure was rebuilt between 1915 and 1916.
Why it matters: The rebuilding of this lighthouse in the mid-1910s responded to growing traffic from wood pulp carriers and commercial fishing operations.
